One of the best little beach towns in the Los Angeles Area, Manhattan Beach offers a wide variety of fun things to do for locals and out-of-towners alike. Whether it’s surfing, swimming, bike riding, shopping, visiting the aquarium, chowing down on world-class cuisine, or just hanging out at the beach, there are many activities and attractions to choose from. Here at South Bay Mazda we’ve compiled a short-list of some of our favorite things to do in Manhattan Beach.
Manhattan State Beach stretches from 1st Street to Rosecrans Avenue, and includes paved walkways, ideal for strolling or bike riding, and nearly 100 volleyball courts. It’s a wide, sandy beach that offers plenty of room to spread out a blanket and sunbathe. Visiting the beach is one of the most popular things to do in the Manhattan Beach, CA area Some highlights include:
Known as the “Pearl of the South Bay”, Downtown Manhattan Beach features over 100 retailers, from chic and trendy clothing stores for women, men, and children, to galleries, salons and spas. You’ll also find more than 50 restaurants, delis, cafes, and coffee shops, offering everything from fine steak and seafood restaurants to burger joints, bakeries, ice creameries, and sushi bars. The Manhattan Beach Certified Farmers Market takes place every Tuesday from 11 AM to 4 PM in Metlox Plaza behind the Shade Hotel. Over 45 vendors offer farm-fresh organic vegetables, locally produced packaged foods, farm-to-table food to-go, and international hot foods prepared on-site. There is also live music, along with entertainment and activities for children, including a train ride.
Providing an opportunity to learn about sustainable gardening, the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden (1236 North Peck Avenue) offers garden tours, Sunday bird walks, a wildflower meadow, and an amphitheater. The Botanical Garden is a beautiful and peaceful place, ideal for getting away and relaxing after a busy day downtown.
Located at 33rd and Bell Avenue, Sand Dune Park got its name from the 100 foot sand dune that draws visitors from throughout the South Bay. A variety of steps and switchbacks lead to the top of the dune where you are rewarded with panoramic views of Manhattan Beach. The three-acre park includes a nature area, a playground, a shaded picnic area, and an open pavilion.
